Compare AWS Panorama and Roboflow

AWS Panorama reached end of support on May 31, 2026. The console is no longer accessible, Panorama appliances stopped functioning, and applications that call the service no longer work. AWS's suggested path for builders is to assemble a replacement from SageMaker, IoT Greengrass V2, ECS or EKS Anywhere, and Systems Manager, and to rewrite applications to remove Panorama-specific APIs.

Roboflow replaces the stack with one platform: label data with AI assistance, train custom models like RF-DETR, and run them with Roboflow Inference on NVIDIA Jetson (the same processor family the Panorama Appliance was built on), GPU servers, or fully offline, connected to the same RTSP cameras. Roboflow Workflows carries the application logic, so teams migrate off Panorama without stitching five services together.

Ultimately, teams use Roboflow because it provides enterprise-grade stability, the option to deploy on anything from an NVIDIA Jetson at the edge to high-scale cloud clusters via Roboflow Cloud, and the ability to build complex application logic (like model chaining and industrial PLC triggers) through a visual drag-and-drop canvas with Roboflow Workflows. While others pivot away, Roboflow is doubling down on the tools engineers need to make machines see.

Roboflow

End-to-end computer vision platform (annotate, train, deploy)

AWS Panorama

Edge computer vision appliance and service, discontinued May 31, 2026

Scale & Ecosystem

Roboflow

  • 1,000,000+ developers on the platform
  • 1,000,000+ public datasets on Roboflow Universe
  • 100,000+ pre-trained models hosted publicly
  • 25,000+ organizations building with the platform, including more than half of the Fortune 100 (publicly cited: Rivian, Chobani, USG, Pella)
  • Self-serve sign-up; teams can begin annotating, training, and deploying without a cloud contract

AWS Panorama

  • Reached end of support on May 31, 2026: the console is inaccessible, appliances no longer function, and API calls fail
  • New customer sign-ups ended May 20, 2025, when the discontinuation was announced
  • AWS directs buyers to partner solutions in the AWS Solutions Library and builders to assemble SageMaker, IoT Greengrass V2, and ECS / EKS Anywhere themselves
  • The Panorama Appliance (built on NVIDIA Jetson Xavier) receives no further updates and must be replaced with new edge hardware

Product Capabilities

Roboflow

  • Train custom object detection, segmentation, classification, and keypoint models on your own classes, including RF-DETR and YOLO architectures
  • Roboflow Workflows chains detection, classification, OCR, and business logic into a single pipeline, replacing hand-written application code
  • Process RTSP camera streams in real time on edge hardware
  • Auto Label uses foundation models (Grounding DINO, SAM 3) so teams automate up to 90% of human labeling
  • Export and import across 40+ annotation formats, including COCO, YOLO, and Pascal VOC

AWS Panorama

  • Ran computer vision applications on the Panorama Appliance against RTSP camera feeds; that capability ended with the service
  • Applications were built against Panorama-specific SDKs and APIs, which AWS says must be rewritten (its sample migration code uses PyAV or OpenCV)
  • Model training always lived outside the service, typically in SageMaker
  • No labeling, dataset management, or model registry; each piece required separate tooling

Migration & Developer Experience

Roboflow

  • Open-source inference server - a Docker container that runs custom and foundation models on NVIDIA Jetson, GPU servers, Raspberry Pi, and x86 hardware, online or fully offline
  • Open-source supervision library for detections, tracking, annotation, and evaluation in production pipelines
  • Hosted inference APIs with autoscaling for workloads that belong in the cloud
  • Standardized I/O lets teams swap model weights without changing application code

AWS Panorama

  • AWS's replacement guidance spans five services: SageMaker for models, IoT Greengrass V2 or Systems Manager for devices, ECS / EKS Anywhere for containers, and Secrets Manager for RTSP credentials
  • Codec and sensor flexibility in the DIY path comes from adopting GStreamer or NVIDIA DeepStream on your own
  • No single managed replacement is offered; integration and maintenance shift to your team

Enterprise & Security

Roboflow

  • SOC 2 Type II compliant
  • HIPAA-compliant infrastructure with BAAs available
  • PCI DSS (SAQ A and AOC) compliance
  • Deployment options: managed cloud, customer VPC, on-premises, and fully air-gapped / offline (Docker-based) for firewalled environments
  • Labeling, training, and inference can run in the customer's own cloud account or on customer-owned hardware

AWS Panorama

  • Carried AWS's compliance portfolio while the service ran
  • After end of support there are no security updates for the appliance or its software
  • Continued operation of Panorama-era hardware means running unsupported, unpatched devices on your network
