Frame Rail Welding AI

Check every weld on every frame rail, crossmember, and bracket, and catch missing, short, and defective welds before final assembly.

Frame Rail Welding AI for the Toughest Chassis and Frame Lines

  • Deploy Anywhere, Run Everywhere

Run frame weld inspection in robotic weld cells and at end-of-line frame stations, on fixed and robot-mounted cameras, on the edge, on-prem, air-gapped, in your VPC, or via API.

  • One Platform, Full Adoption

Tools every frame team can adopt, from weld operators and inspectors to welding, quality, and manufacturing engineers, no separate ML team required.

  • Secure, Compliant, and Audit-Ready

Data stays safe with SOC 2 Type II compliance, encrypted data, and an uptime SLA, with an image record of every weld for each frame serial number that supports IATF 16949 quality systems.

Check Every Weld, from the First Crossmember to the Finished Frame

Add a real-time inspection layer to every frame with Roboflow Vision AI for frame rail welding. Built for car, pickup, and heavy truck frame lines where robots and welders lay dozens to hundreds of arc welds on rails, crossmembers, brackets, and hangers, inspectors check a sample by eye, and one missing or weak weld can mean a frame scrapped at final assembly, a field failure under load, or a recall.

Weld presence and position:

  • Detect every weld on the rail, crossmember, and bracket, and compare the count to the weld map for that frame.
  • Check each weld against its expected location, and flag missing, extra, and misplaced welds.
  • Measure weld length and size against your spec, and catch short and undersized welds.

Weld quality:

  • Flag porosity, undercut, cracks, and lack of fusion at the toe, alongside weld inspection.
  • Catch burn-through, excess reinforcement, and spatter on mounting faces and holes.
  • Feed results back to the weld cell to catch a drifting robot early, alongside vision guided robotic welding.

Finished frame and records:

  • Confirm every bracket, crossmember, hanger, and hole is present on the finished frame, alongside weld nut and stud detection.
  • Route a failed frame to repair with a marked-up image of each weld to fix.
  • Store a weld map and images for every frame serial number, and trend defects by robot, cell, shift, and weld.

Bring intelligence to every frame today. Stop missing and weak welds from becoming scrapped frames, field failures, and recalls.

Frequently asked questions

What is frame rail welding inspection with Vision AI?

Frame rail welding inspection with Vision AI uses cameras in the weld cell and at the end of the frame line, plus trained computer vision models, to find every arc weld on the frame, check its count, position, and length against the weld map, and flag surface defects. It covers the heavy frame welds that hold a vehicle together, while spot weld inspection covers the body-in-white.

How does it check welds against the weld map?

A detection model finds each weld and a defect model classifies its surface. A Workflow lines the frame image up with the weld map, matches each weld to its expected location, measures its length, and reports any weld that is missing, short, misplaced, or defective as a pass or fail with a marked-up image.

Can it inspect a full-length frame?

Yes. Long frames are imaged with several fixed cameras along the station, robot-mounted cameras, or a line scan camera as the frame moves, and image tiling keeps small weld defects visible across the full length, with every result placed back on one map of the frame.

Can it connect to our weld cells and MES?

Yes. Roboflow runs on-prem and fully air-gapped, and sends results over OPC UA, MQTT, or REST to the weld cell PLC and your MES, so a frame with a bad weld is held at the station and routed to repair.

Roboflow serves as the inspection engine, and your welding and quality teams own the weld maps, specs, and acceptance criteria.
