AI OCR Cameras That Read and Verify Text on the Line

Roboflow AI1 is a camera with an NVIDIA Jetson inside that finds and reads lot codes, expiry dates, and serial numbers on every part or package, checks them against what should be there, and flags any mismatch.

OCR Cameras AI Vision Solution

Text on the line is rarely clean. Lot codes are inkjet-printed on curved bottles, serial numbers are laser-etched into metal, and labels go by on a moving conveyor. Industrial OCR needs a camera that captures that text sharply and a model that first finds where the text is, then reads it. Common jobs include date and lot code verification, laser-etched code reading, and label verification.

Roboflow AI1 (opens in a new tab) gives you both in one IP54 unit: an 8 MP sensor (3840 x 2160 at 30 fps) with a 4 mm lens, electronic focus for small print, and an integrated 8-LED ring light that keeps glossy labels readable. On the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX inside, a detection model trained on your packaging finds each code, an OCR model reads it, and a Workflow checks the result against the expected format, date, or batch. For hard-to-read text, AI1 can hand the crop to a vision-language model such as Gemini in the cloud.

  • Featured: Roboflow AI1 (AI1-8MP-4MM): 8 MP sensor, 4 mm lens with electronic focus, NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 8 GB, IP54 housing
  • Attributes: Text detection and OCR on-device, integrated lighting for glossy and curved surfaces, a stored record of every read for traceability
  • Integration: PASS/FAIL to your PLC over OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, or Profinet to reject mismatches, and every read to MES, ERP, or SQL

Label where codes appear on your parts and packaging, train a detection model in Roboflow, and build a Workflow that crops each code, reads it, and checks it against your rules. Deploy it to every AI1 from Roboflow Deployment Manager. When packaging changes, retrain and push the update over the air.

Already have cameras on the line? Roboflow Inference also runs OCR on GigE Vision and RTSP streams from the cameras you already have, so you can add text reading to existing stations and put AI1 where you need a new one.

AI for OCR Cameras Workflows

Use OCR cameras? Explore Workflows you can get started with to create computer vision apps in minutes. Try the top open and closed source models on images of your labels and codes for free, then deploy an OCR Workflow to AI1 that reads, verifies, and flags mismatches in real time.

How to Setup OCR Cameras with AI

AI1 mounts over the label or code and connects over Gigabit Ethernet. Deploy an OCR Workflow from Roboflow Deployment Manager, and AI1 finds, reads, and checks each code on-device, sending a pass/fail result to your PLC and every read to your MES.
