Build Vision AI on GigE Vision Cameras

GigE Vision is the standard behind most industrial cameras on factory lines. Roboflow trains models on images from your line and runs them on live GigE streams at the edge.

GigE Cameras AI Vision Solution

GigE Vision is the camera interface standard maintained by A3 (the Association for Advancing Automation). It lets industrial cameras send images over standard Ethernet cable, with runs up to 100 m and, on PoE models, power over the same cable. Because the standard is shared across makers, one Roboflow pipeline works with GigE cameras from many brands, so you can pick the camera that fits the station and keep the same model and deployment.

For most lines we recommend the Basler ace 2 (opens in a new tab), available with GigE and 5GigE interfaces at up to 25 MP, or the compact LUCID Triton (opens in a new tab), a 29 mm GigE PoE camera from 0.4 to 24.5 MP that is IP67-ready for wet or dusty stations. When budget matters most, Hikrobot's CS and CB series bring GigE to a lower price point.

  • Featured: Basler ace 2 (GigE, 5GigE), LUCID Triton (GigE PoE), Hikrobot CS and CB series
  • Attributes: Cable runs up to 100 m, Power over Ethernet on PoE models, GenICam camera controls shared across makers
  • Integration: Roboflow Deployment Manager finds GigE cameras on your edge device's network and attaches their streams to a vision pipeline, no manual network setup

Where Roboflow fits: GigE cameras deliver clean, high-resolution frames; Roboflow turns them into decisions. Label images from your line, train a model in Roboflow, then run it with Roboflow Inference on an edge device next to the cameras. Results can go to your PLC, MES, or alerting systems, and you can retrain as parts and conditions change.

Want AI without the integration work? Roboflow's AI1 deployment device (opens in a new tab) packages onboard AI compute, integrated lighting, and an industrial camera into a plug-and-play system for real-time computer vision, with no separate camera, lighting, or edge computer to spec.

AI for GigE Cameras Workflows

Use GigE cameras? Explore Workflows you can get started with to create computer vision apps in minutes. Try the top open and closed source models on frames from your GigE cameras for free, then train a custom model in Roboflow and run it on live GigE streams with Roboflow Inference.

How to Setup GigE Cameras with AI

GigE cameras can be used for computer vision tasks such as defect detection, part counting, and assembly verification. Connect them over Ethernet to an edge device running Roboflow Inference, let Deployment Manager discover them on the network, and attach their streams to a Workflow trained on your own data.

“The vision AI solutions we developed with Roboflow have been a core component of connecting our teams and unlocking their ability to collaborate.”
