High-Mix Low-Volume Inspection AI

Inspect every part, variant, and build-to-order configuration, with inspections your own team builds and changes as the mix does.

High-Mix Low-Volume Inspection AI for the Toughest Make-to-Order Lines and Plants

  • Deploy Anywhere, Run Everywhere

Run high-mix inspection on the cameras at each station, on the edge, on-prem, in your VPC, or via API, and push changes to every plant over the air.

  • One Platform, Full Adoption

Tools your own quality, manufacturing, and controls engineers use to build, test, and change inspections themselves, no integrator ticket or separate ML team for each new part.

  • Secure, Compliant, and Audit-Ready

Data stays safe with SOC 2 Type II compliance, encrypted data, and an uptime SLA, with an image and result for every unit tied to its order and serial.

  • Per-Order & Per-Variant Checks
  • Inspection Selected by Part Number
  • Good-Part-Only Anomaly Models
  • Golden-Sample Comparison
  • Zero-Shot Checks for New Parts
  • Over-the-Air Updates to Every Plant

Inspect Every Configuration, from the First Unit to the Last Order

Bring real-time intelligence to every station on a make-to-order line with Roboflow vision AI for high-mix low-volume inspection. Built for plants where no two orders match, a new option or variant arrives every week, and a rules-based vision system that needs reprogramming for each change never keeps up. Your own engineers build the inspection, change it when the part changes, and roll it out to every line and plant.

Build inspections your team owns:

  • Drag and connect models, logic, and outputs in the Workflows builder, with no code required.
  • Start a new part from images of good parts with anomaly detection, before you have a single defect example.
  • Test a new check with a zero-shot model and a text prompt, then fine-tune as images come in.

Handle every variant on the line:

  • Read the part number, barcode, or work order at the station with industrial OCR, and run the checks for that configuration.
  • Compare each unit to its reference standard and return exactly which component is missing or wrong.
  • Verify options, hardware, labels, and wiring against the build sheet for each order.

Change and scale without starting over:

  • Add a new variant by labeling images with Auto Label and retraining in the same project.
  • Collect hard cases from production with active learning, so the model improves as the mix changes.
  • Push an updated inspection to every station and plant with over-the-air updates.

Bring intelligence to every order today. Stop new parts and variants from becoming inspection gaps, reprogramming tickets, and escapes.

Frequently asked questions

What is high-mix low-volume inspection with Vision AI?

High-mix low-volume inspection with Vision AI uses cameras at each station and trained computer vision models (opens in a new tab) to check parts and assemblies that change from order to order. The station reads which configuration it is looking at and runs the right checks, so one setup covers the whole product mix. It pairs with assembly verification and few-shot defect detection.

How is this different from rules-based machine vision?

Rules-based machine vision is set up for a fixed part with fixed thresholds, so every new variant means new rules, often written by an integrator. Vision AI models learn what a good part looks like from images and handle variation in color, position, and lighting. Your team adds a new part by adding images and retraining in the same platform, without rebuilding the inspection.

Can our own engineers build and change inspections?

Yes. Quality, manufacturing, and controls engineers label images, train models, and build inspection logic in the Workflows builder without writing code, then test it on live camera feeds before it goes to the line. Every dataset and model is versioned, so each change can be compared with the last one before it ships.

Roboflow serves as the inspection engine, and your quality and manufacturing teams own the checks, the acceptance criteria, and every change.

Can it integrate with our MES, PLCs, and order systems?

Yes. The station can take the part number from a PLC or MES, and Roboflow writes pass/fail and defect type back over OPC UA or MQTT, and sends images and results over REST (opens in a new tab) to traceability and order systems.
