Conveyor Belt Drift Detection AI

Measure where every belt runs, catch drift before the edge hits the structure, and find what's pushing it off center.

Computer vision monitoring system tracking edge alignment and drift on an industrial conveyor belt transporting crushed rock at a quarry.

Keep Every Belt on Center, from Tail Pulley to Head Pulley

Add a real-time tracking layer to every conveyor with Roboflow Vision AI for conveyor belt drift detection. Built for mines, quarries, cement and gypsum plants, and bulk terminals where belts run for kilometers, drift builds slowly after a maintenance job or a change in feed, and nobody sees it until the edge is frayed, material is spilling, or the belt is rubbing the structure and a sway switch trips the line.

Edge position and drift:

  • Outline the belt with segmentation and measure both edges against the centerline at every camera.
  • Trend drift over minutes, shifts, and weeks, and see which way each belt is moving and how fast.
  • Alert at your warning and alarm limits, long before the edge reaches the structure or the sway switch.

Finding the cause:

  • Detect off-center loading at the chute and link it to drift downstream, as feed rate and material change.
  • Flag wander that repeats once per belt revolution, a sign the splice is the problem rather than the structure.
  • Spot seized idlers, misaligned frames, and buildup that pull the belt sideways, alongside conveyor idler monitoring.

Alerts and records:

  • Flag edge contact, frayed edges, and edge wear, alongside belt rip prevention.
  • Keep a tracking history for every conveyor, and confirm the belt is back on center after each training or maintenance job.
  • Combine drift with spillage and blockage alerts from conveyor belt monitoring on the same cameras.

Bring intelligence to every belt today. Stop drift from becoming frayed edges, spillage, damaged structure, and early belt replacement.

Frequently asked questions

What is conveyor belt drift detection with Vision AI?

Conveyor belt drift detection with Vision AI uses cameras along the conveyor and trained computer vision models to measure where the belt runs relative to its centerline, trend how that changes over time, and alert before mistracking damages the belt or the structure. It turns belt tracking into a predictive maintenance signal instead of a breakdown.

How is it different from belt sway switches?

A sway switch trips when the belt edge has already moved far enough to hit it, which usually means a stop. Vision AI measures the edge position continuously, so crews see drift starting, get a warning hours or days earlier, and fix the cause during a planned stop. Many sites keep their sway switches as the last line of protection and add cameras for early warning.

Does it work in dusty and outdoor conditions?

Yes. Models are trained on images from your own galleries, yards, and load zones, across dust, rain, night lighting, and different materials on the belt, and run on rugged edge devices close to the conveyor.

Can it connect to SCADA and our PLCs?

Yes. Roboflow runs on-prem and fully air-gapped, and sends edge position, drift alarms, and video clips over OPC UA, MQTT, or REST to SCADA, historians, and maintenance systems. PLC integration can slow or stop a belt when drift passes your alarm limit.

Roboflow serves as the monitoring engine, and your maintenance and reliability teams own the limits, alarms, and work orders.
