IP67 Camera Enclosures for Vision AI in Harsh Environments

Dust, water, and washdowns are hard on cameras. Use an IP67-rated camera or a sealed enclosure, and Roboflow runs your vision model on its stream.

An IP rating, defined in IEC 60529 (opens in a new tab), tells you what a camera housing keeps out. In IP67, the 6 means dust-tight and the 7 means protection against immersion in water up to 1 m deep for 30 minutes. Ratings are not cumulative, so IP67 does not cover water jets. For areas cleaned with high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns, look for IP69K.

There are two ways to get a sealed camera for vision AI: buy a camera that is rated IP67 itself, or put a standard industrial camera inside an IP67 enclosure.

Collect your training images through the enclosure window, with the camera in its final position, so the model learns any reflections or tint the window adds. Then label the images and train a model in Roboflow, and run it with Roboflow Inference on the camera's GigE Vision stream, on an edge device next to the line.

Already have sealed cameras? Roboflow Inference runs models on GigE Vision and RTSP streams from the cameras you already have, so you can add AI to the washdown and outdoor cameras you run today.

How to Setup IP67 Camera Enclosures with AI

IP67-rated cameras and cameras in IP67 enclosures connect over GigE or RTSP to an edge device such as an NVIDIA Jetson. Train a model in Roboflow on images taken through the enclosure, then run it with Roboflow Inference and send results to your PLC or MES.

“Since moving the majority of our vision models to Roboflow, we’ve increased the cadence of rolling out new features. We spin up the platform, train overnight, and the next morning it works”
