Industrial Camera Mounting That Keeps Your Vision Model Accurate

A vision model is only as consistent as the view it gets. Mount the camera at the right distance and angle, keep it rigid, control the light, and Roboflow handles the model.

Industrial Camera Mounting AI Vision Solution

In vision AI, the mount matters more than most teams expect. A model learns from the images it was trained on, so if the camera drifts, vibrates, or picks up glare those images never showed, accuracy drops. Good mounting gives the model the same clean view on every frame, shift after shift.

  • Distance and field of view: Frame the part with a little margin around it. As an example, Roboflow AI1 (opens in a new tab)'s 4 mm lens covers about 665 x 374 mm at 1 m and roughly half that at 0.5 m, so the smaller the defect, the closer you mount
  • Angle and glare: Mount square to the surface you inspect, and tilt slightly off-axis on shiny parts so reflections do not wash out the detail
  • Rigidity and vibration: Use T-slot aluminum extrusion or a stiff bracket rather than a flexible arm, and isolate the mount from machines that shake
  • Lighting: Control the light instead of relying on ambient light that changes through the day; AI1 has an integrated 8-LED ring light
  • Cabling and environment: AI1 runs on 24V DC, connects over an M12 Gigabit Ethernet connector, and has an IP54 housing; route and strain-relieve cables so they cannot pull the camera off position

Mount the camera in its final position before you collect training images. Then label those images in Roboflow, train a model, and deploy it. If you move the camera later, add a few images from the new view and retrain.

Already have cameras mounted? Roboflow Inference also runs models on GigE Vision and RTSP streams from the cameras you already have, so you can add AI to the views on your line today, and put AI1 where you need a new station.

How to Setup Industrial Camera Mounting with AI

AI1 mounts at the station on 24V DC power and connects over M12 Gigabit Ethernet. Collect images from the mounted camera, label them and train a model in Roboflow, then deploy it from Roboflow Deployment Manager and AI1 runs it on-device.

“The vision AI solutions we developed with Roboflow have been a core component of connecting our teams and unlocking their ability to collaborate.”
