What is kitting verification with Vision AI?
Kitting verification with Vision AI uses a camera over the kitting bench, tote, or pack-out station and a computer vision model trained on your own parts to confirm that every kit contains the right part numbers in the right quantities before it ships or reaches the assembly station. The model detects and counts each part, compares the result to the bill of materials or pick list for that kit, and flags missing, extra, or wrong-revision items with an image attached. It also covers kit-to-order matching and end-of-line label checks, and produces the per-kit records that ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 13485, and GDP audits ask for.
Can Vision AI tell apart look-alike parts and count small hardware in a kit?
Yes. Vision AI handles part identity with detection models (RF-DETR is the usual starting point) trained on images of your actual parts under your bench lighting, and handles counts by detecting each instance in the tray.
Does kitting verification support ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and ISO 13485?
Yes. The verification layer produces the objective evidence these standards call for: ISO 9001 (quality management systems, including control of nonconforming output and traceability), IATF 16949 (the automotive quality management standard, including error-proofing and layered process audits), ISO 13485 (quality management for medical devices, which governs surgical and procedure kit assembly and packaging), and GDP (Good Distribution Practice for medical and pharmaceutical products in transit). Kit results and part counts publish over REST, MQTT, or OPC UA, so they can write into SAP, Oracle, Infor, and Epicor ERP, Manhattan, Blue Yonder, and Körber WMS, and Ignition, AVEVA, and Rockwell FactoryTalk on the plant side. The model can pull the expected bill of materials for the current order from the WMS or ERP, so verification runs against the live pick list rather than a static kit definition. Where pass/fail drives station behavior, results can trigger a PLC output to release the kit, hold the tote, or light the pick-to-light rail, and they can run alongside existing scale checks and barcode scans rather than replacing them.
